“Stepping out in faith and making your “yes” tangible is all God needs,” says SCS student Regina Torres. “It’s in obedience that He opens doors and blesses you with the plans He has laid before you. He is just waiting for you to choose the right door.”

This open door appeared for Regina when she decided to answer the call to ministry God placed on her heart. “Ever since high school, I’ve felt God place full time music ministry on my heart. I applied to universities I knew had a music ministry degree plan and even got accepted. However, my family convinced me to stay and follow a secular career path even though I knew in my heart that it was not for me,” shares Regina. “I always felt a knot in my stomach just thinking or talking about it. Things didn’t begin to change until I met my current boyfriend. God started moving in his life and called him to pastoral ministry. To equip himself for the call, he signed up for classes here at SCS. He encouraged me to finally make my “yes” to God tangible and register for classes too.”

Continuing with her desire to follow through on her “yes” to God, Regina also served as an SCS intern during the 2019-2020 school year at the McAllen campus. “I was excited to be an intern, because if I want to work in ministry, I need to know how one works,” says Regina. “The experience helped me increase my horizons and push myself to grow even more into the person God has created me to be.”

Outside of SCS, Regina attends Centro Cristiano Rey de Reyes. She serves the youth at the church by leading worship and occasionally preaching. Although her load is heavy, she balances everything in her desire to answer God and serve His kingdom in McAllen.
