SCS Trustees Recognized for Excellence

Stark College & Seminary (SCS)  was honored to be invited as one of the first 10 institutions to participate in a board governance training program by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) for the 2019-2020 program years due a significant grant from the Murdock Charitable Trust.

Each participating institution brought five of their leaders including the board chair, president, and three other board leaders to engage in four days of training provided during two separate training events. In addition to Dr. Tony Celelli , the trustees who participated in the training were Andrew Miller, Dr. Karlene Lyn , Dr. Derrick Reaves, Kathryn Albin, and Juan Vega. Stark was privileged to have Dr. Ralph Enlow as its coach to assist in their training development of SCS’s Five Strategic Initiatives

Within six months of the second training event, the governance team refined their action steps, which were then each assigned to a different subcommittee for implementation to improve the board’s overall service and engagement. These initiatives include: 1) Prayer Strategy, 2) Trustee Dashboard, 3) Trustee Development, 4) Mission Fit Faculty, and 5) Contingency/Risk Assessment Plan.

After submitting the report on their progress on these five initiatives, Dr. Tony Celelli and Stark College & Seminary were presented the “Excellence in Board Governance” certification by ABHE on February 19, 2021. SCS is grateful for the hard work of its leadership and trustees in advancing SCS’s board engagement and mission forward with greater intentionality and focus.

SCS has been accredited with ABHE since February, 2018 to grant certificates and degrees at the Associate, Baccalaureate, and Master levels. ABHE comprises a network of more than 200 institutions that enrolls more than 50,000 students of biblical higher education in the U.S. and Canada.
