“I think pursuing a theological education is a calling from God,” says Dr. Tony Miranda. “I wanted to learn more about the Bible and learn more about His word, and I am so happy to fulfill this calling the best way that I can.”
Dr. Tony Miranda is no stranger to the classroom. His academic history spans many different subjects and institutions. He holds a Bachelor of Marketing and Graphic Design and a MBA from Universidad Autonóma de la Laguna, a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical/Theological Studies from Baptist University of the Américas, a Certificate in Jewish Culture and Context from the Israel Study Center, a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University, and he is currently working on the Ph.D. in New Testament at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
While he has degrees in many different areas, his theological degrees have a greater significance in his life. “In my first seminary class, I realized that the level of teaching was different than in a Sunday school class at church. I was hungry for the Word and I wanted to learn more. I have not stopped learning ever since,” he shares. “As a student, God has opened doors for me I could have never imagined.”
God first opened a door when Dr. Miranda came as an international student to BUA. He met his wife at the college, and a mentor there helped him apply for a full scholarship to pursue his Master of Divinity at Truett. While he was pursuing his Doctor of Ministry at Truett, God opened another door for him to come work at SCS.
“A friend recommended me to the leadership at SCS, and they contacted me for an interview,” Dr. Miranda tells us. “I went through the process, and before I knew it, my family was moving to Corpus Christi to accept the position.”
Dr. Miranda serves as the Director of the Master’s Program at SCS and is able to share all he learns with his students. “I am currently pursuing the Ph.D. in New Testament, and I love teaching my students what I learn in my own classes. Last semester, I took a Ph.D. class on the Gospel of John, and I got to teach a class on the same subject which was a great help to me,” he says.
He also acts as a teacher for many members of the South Texas community. As a candidate for president of Convencion Bautista Hispana de Texas, he plans to help continue the programs the organization has started to equip future leaders of the church. Dr. Miranda shares, “I feel so blessed that I am able to teach my students, my church, my community, and my family.”

El Dr. Tony Miranda no es ajeno al aula de clases. Su historia académica abarca muchos temas e instituciones diferentes. Es licenciado en Marketing y Diseño Gráfico y tiene un Maestría en Administración de Empresas de la Universidad Autónoma de Laguna, una Licenciatura Estudios Bíblicos / Teológicos de la Universidad Bautista de las Américas, un Certificado en Cultura y Contexto Judío del Centro de Estudios de Israel, un Maestría de Divinidad y un Doctorado en Ministerio del Seminario Teológico George W. Truett en la Universidad de Baylor, y actualmente está completando su tercer año de doctorado (Ph.D.) con énfasis el Nuevo Testamento en Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Si bien tiene títulos en muchas áreas diferentes, sus títulos teológicos son los que han sido más significativos en su vida. “En mi primera clase de teología en un seminario, me di cuenta que el nivel de enseñanza era diferente que en una clase de escuela dominical en le iglesia. Tenía hambre de la palabra y quería aprender más y no he dejado de aprender desde entonces”, comparte. “Como estudiante, Dios me ha abierto puertas que nunca podría haber imaginado”.
Una de esas puertas, es cuando estudió en BUA donde conoció a su esposa, de allí fue recomendado para recibir una beca completa para estudiar su maestría en Truett y mientras completaba su Doctorado en Ministerio, Dios le abrió otra puerta para que trabajara en SCS.
“Fui recomendó al liderazgo de SCS, y me contactaron para una entrevista”, nos dice el Dr. Miranda. “Pasé por el proceso, y finalmente, acepté la invitación de unirme al quipo y nos cambiamos a Corpus Christi”.
Actualmente, el Dr. Miranda se desempeña como Director del Programa de Maestría en SCS y puede compartir todo lo que aprende de sus estudios con sus propios estudiantes. “Actualmente estoy cursando el doctorado en el Nuevo Testamento, y me encanta enseñar a mis alumnos lo que aprendo en mis propias clases. El semestre pasado, tomé un clase avanzada sobre el evangelio de Juan, y tuve la oportunidad de enseñarla”.
También actúa como maestro para muchos miembros de la comunidad del sur de Texas. Como candidato a presidente de la Convención Hispana Bautista de Texas, planea ayudar a continuar con los programas de equipar a futuros líderes de la iglesia. “Me siento tan bendecido de poder hacer esto con mis estudiantes, mi iglesia, mi comunidad y mi familia”.
