Stark Seminary Announces

New Master of Divinity Program

Stark College & Seminary’s faculty, administration, and Board of Trustees approved a new Master of Divinity degree on April 13. The 74-hour Master of Divinity equips graduates for ministry leadership in a variety of church and parachurch contexts. The degree includes comprehensive training in the areas of ministry and leadership, biblical, theological, and historical studies.

According to President Tony Celelli, “Local leaders will now have access to a local expression of the premiere theological degree designed for sustained ministry preparation. The unique Stark educational distinctive includes not only the best of biblical and theological reflection, but also a carefully curated faculty who love and serve in their respective churches, using what Stark calls the practitioner-scholar model.”

The development of the new Master of Divinity program was a collaborative effort that involved focus group interviews with church and ministry leaders from across the state. The result is a robust program that will equip students to meet the evolving demands of ministry in the twenty-first century.

Stark Seminary Provost Dr. Jena Dunn expressed her enthusiasm for the new program, stating, “As part of the development of this degree, we wanted to ensure that it was meeting the needs of modern ministry settings and situations. Involving local church and parachurch leaders in the curriculum development process opened our eyes to how MDivs have failed to prepare the called for ministry in the past. Using this information, we developed what we believe is a degree that will equip church and community leaders with the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary for effective ministry service.”

As the most recent addition to its curriculum offerings, the MDiv signals Stark College & Seminary’s continued commitment to provide degrees in biblical higher education that serve students in South Texas and beyond.
