Jeff and Charlotte BIllinger
Stark College & Seminary celebrates a significant milestone in advancing theological education with the establishment of the Black Church Studies Professor Endowment, generously initiated by Jeff and Charlotte Billinger. This visionary gift underscores their deep commitment to equipping future ministry leaders to serve diverse congregations with cultural awareness, biblical wisdom, and a heart for Christ.
For Jeff and Charlotte, faith is more than belief—it is action. Their dedication to theological education is rooted in their own journey, shaped by international missions and a lifelong understanding of the importance of preparing church leaders to minister effectively in their cultural contexts. Having met in Korea while serving in ministry and the military, they recognize that the gospel transcends language and culture and that theological training must reflect the diversity of God’s kingdom.
Why This Endowment Matters
The Billinger’s new endowment addresses a critical need at Stark, where nearly two-thirds of the student body come from underserved Hispanic and African American communities. The establishment of a Black Church Studies professor will provide invaluable insight into the unique cultural expressions of faith within Black churches, fostering unity and understanding across congregations.
“We believe that Stark is preparing men and women to better serve churches for what they will become, not just what they were,” Jeff shared. “Graduates of Stark can be catalysts for change if their education enables them to understand the diversity within their church body and reach out to the communities they are called to serve.”
A Call to Kingdom Investment
As a seasoned business leader with years of experience, Jeff understands the power of strategic investment. He sees endowments like this one as a way to ensure long-term stability for theological education, creating a foundation for sustained growth and impact. “Business leaders always have an eye on the future. Investing in Stark is not just about funding today’s education but preparing tomorrow’s church leaders to guide congregations with integrity, wisdom, and cultural awareness.”
The Billingers recognize the growing need for strong moral leadership in America—leaders who uphold biblical values and serve both the church and the community with excellence. The impact of this endowment will echo for generations, shaping leaders who will faithfully serve in diverse ministry contexts.
As we celebrate Black History Month, there is no better time to honor and support the development of future leaders who will bridge cultural divides and build strong, Christ-centered communities. We invite you to partner in this mission and to help fully fund the endowment and help secure the future of this vital faculty position.
