Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy

Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy (75 hours)

The MDiv in Chaplaincy utilizes a combination of traditional coursework, Competency-Based Theological Education (CBTE), and Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). This program is offered in partnership with CHRISTUS Health Clinical Pastoral Education in Corpus Christi. Students benefit from dual enrollment, participating simultaneously in CHRISTUS Health’s CPE program and Stark Seminary’s MDiv program.

This strategic partnership and curriculum structure allows students to graduate with two degrees: a Master of Arts in Ministry and a Master of Divinity, along with four units of CPE. The program’s supportive mentorship from experienced faculty and certified CPE educators ensures personalized guidance and development throughout their studies.

Curriculum

The program begins with students completing the 43 credit-hour Master of Arts in Ministry at Stark Seminary. After obtaining their MA, students apply to the CHRISTUS Health CPE Residency Program, where they will complete the competency portion of the MDiv, totaling 28 credit hours (Stark Seminary cannot guarantee admission to the residency).

This residency allows students to learn through supervised practical experience in a clinical setting. Students also receive CPE units while in residency at CHRISTUS Health. Upon completion of the residency, students finish their MDiv with two final Stark Seminary courses: Capstone and Evangelism and Discipleship, accounting for an additional 6 credit hours.
