1. Understand the task at hand.

Know exactly what the professor’s expectations are before beginning the assignment. Consider questions that should be answered in your presentation, length of your presentation, and the depth of content that should be covered. 

2. Be the expert on your topic.

Research your topic thoroughly!  Seek the librarian’s assistance in locating books in the library that pertain to your topic.  Make sure to also utilize EBSCO on our library website to find material that will assist in you in your presentation.  Spend ample time reading the books and journals that you find in order to fully comprehend your topic.

3. Create a Masterpiece!

Create an outline of the information that you have collected and decide on a creative way to present it.  If you choose to use slides, make sure to include graphics and lots of color. Prepare a discussion question and anticipate questions that may be asked.  Ask a friend to proofread your slides looking for misspelled words and areas that may need clarification or improvement.  

4. Practice makes perfect!

Grab your spouse, friend, or classmate and practice your presentation with them.  Consider time, annunciation of terms, and how you express your thoughts. Try to avoid reading word for word from your slides or notes. 

5. Dress to Impress.

On the day before your presentation, plan your attire.  Select an outfit that is professional and makes you feel comfortable and confident.  

6. Honor Time.

On the day of your presentation, wear a watch or assign someone to be your timekeeper.  Be respectful of the allotted time for your presentation. 

7. Relax.

Before you present, say a prayer, take a deep breath, and smile because you have prepared.  You’ve got this!
